Open records office: SE schools right to withhold investigative report

Education reporter Angie Mason reports the following: The Pennsylvania Office of Open Records has upheld the South Eastern School District’s decision not to release a report resulting from an investigation into administrative staff.
The York Daily Record/Sunday News filed a Right to Know request for the document Aug. 5, and the district denied the request Aug. 9. The newspaper appealed, and the Office of Open Records denied the appeal Tuesday.
The office said the document was properly withheld as a noncriminal investigative report.
The South Eastern School Board hired the Levin Legal Group to investigate then-Supt. Tracy Shank and her staff.
To Angie’s report, I’ll add that this was the request that South Eastern rejected twice while telling us it wasn’t sure what we were asking for because the request wasn’t specific enough. For the record, in its decision upholding South Eastern’s denial, the open records office noted that the request was sufficiently specific.
